Woven are a vibrant group of young singers based in Hamilton, New Zealand.

We are a four part singing group from throughout the Waikato community, aged between 13 and 30 years old.

While our roots are in the choral tradition, Woven's relevance and strength lies in performances with a creative twist.

WOVEN; Young Vocal Collective are auditioning for their 2010 ensemble. Interested singers are invited to book an audition slot here and bring an unaccompanied song to perform.

 

Those auditioning will be fighting for a spot in the ensemble of just 24 voices.

“Being a chamber group means individual singers need to be musically savvy. Untrained natural musicians definitely have a shot, as well as singers with instrumental training or choral experience.” says Brooke Baker, Woven’s 27 year old founder and Artistic Director. Her exuberance is infectious, “More than just good singers we’re looking for performers who thrive as part of a team. Working as a team of vocal musicians we create synergy –it’s both challenging and stimulating. 

 

Woven is comprised of singers from throughout the Waikato aged between 13-30 years. Essentially a choir, the four-part group blends the traditional with the contemporary, captivating audiences and challenging performers.Since forming in 2008 Woven has gained momentum giving a wide variety of performances; everything from festivals and Christmas events, to intimate weddings and family occasions, to art installations and on-the-spot flash-mobs.

 

Auditions are no more than 15 minutes and will take place in the music department at St Paul's Collegiate, Hamilton on Tuesday February 23 from 4pm- 9pm.

This vocal ensemble is saturated with youthful creativity, created by Hamiltonian Brooke Baker. The former New Zealand Youth Choir member created Woven to fill a gap in the Waikato music scene.

Gaining momentum since forming at the beginning of 2008, Woven now boasts a solid base of singers and supporters.

In it's first year alone, Woven performed to a total audience of over 4000 through flashmobs, open-air concerts, a festival showcase and sell-out Christmas gig.
